"The Red Canoe is based on a 48” x48” acrylic painting on canvas, which I scanned multiple times and imported into photoshop to prepare a digital file for printing. The second edition of the print has changed substantially with every colour being replaced to eliminate all traces of texture & highlights.
The origins of the image go back to a CD cover that I designed for the group Kitchen Music. I made a small painting of a canoe on a shore for one panel of a very elaborate booklet. That image evolved over the years through a series of paintings until the composition and technique became firmly established. At that point I repeated the painting with the exact same foreground structure while changing the colour relationships of the water each time. I eventually created 50 large scale versions of the Red Canoe. At this point I no longer paint this image, but I’m always happy to consider a private commission."
